Popular hip hop artist Malcolm McCormick, better known as Mac Miller, tragically overdosed on September 7, 2018. He was well known for his hit singles, “Donald Trump,” “Self Care” and “My Favorite Part.” He released six albums during his career. some reached number one on the charts.
After passing in 2018, fans thought that his most recent album “Swimming” would be the last they hear out of Miller. Seemingly out of nowhere, his family posted on his Instagram that a new album called “Circles” will be released on January 17.
“Malcolm was well into the process of recording this companion album to Swimming, entitled Circles,” stated members of Miller’s family on his Instagram. “Two different styles complementing each other, completing a circle — Swimming in Circles was the concept.”
The week prior a song was released called “Good News,” which was also featured on the album.
Billboard music charts writes, “bringing in just over 57 percent of the votes this week, Circles (song) received more votes than new releases from Eminem, Halsey, BTS and more.”
On Thursday (Jan. 16) the Mac Miller estate opened its doors for a preview of the “Circles: Til’ Infinity” listening party for the album. Held at the revamped D.O.M. Gallery on the busy intersection of West Hollywood’s Fairfax and Melrose Avenue, the brightly lit, two-roomed museum pop-up shined. Organized by Warner Brothers Records, Mirrored Media and Mac Miller’s family and friends, along with his former management, the minimalistic event was first advertised just five days before the listening party.
At the pop-up they sold exclusive merchandise where all sales will be funneled to The Mac Miller Fund.
According to the Pittsburgh Foundation, Miller’s goal for the foundation is to “support young artists and creators with resources to help their full potential through exploration, expression and communication.”
